Climate change and fuel security have risen in the policy agenda, resulting in a comprehensive policy framework at the European Union and national levels. The growth of data centers, and the energy used, means the industry will be particularly affected by the drive for energy efficient product design and building services. This policy and implications study identifies key existing and emerging energy policies and affecting data center design, construction, and operation, explores the implications for data centers of the identified energy policies, and recommends actions that The Green Grid members can take to meet existing legislation, shape and prepare for forthcoming legislation, embrace voluntary codes, and leverage commercial opportunities.
