The Green Grid Hosts Workshop at DCD Zettastructure

Lance Rütimann and Simon Brady

In today’s business climate, organizations are using a number of instruments to better quantify and qualify the performance of their data centers. But with the vast range of metrics and KPIs available, it can often be difficult for both data center operators and managers to identify the true value of key business and energy objectives.

Research commissioned by The Green Grid in the UK, Germany, and France found a strong requirement to improve the dialogue between data center management and executive management and the board. This in itself can be better facilitated by translating technical metrics and KPIs into a meaningful message for all parties to improve their understanding and support the operations message of the IT organization.

At this year’s DCD Europe Zettastructure, The Green Grid EMEA calls on members of association and other leading experts in the data center field to share their valued opinions and feedback on how the application of existing data center metrics/KPIs can be translated into an executive management-focused instrument.

We will collate all feedback taking into account a set of recognized metrics and KPIs, a methodology to set them relative to each other, and the varying criteria of different data centers (purpose, size, location, etc.). The aim is to establish an instrument that would provide a flexible data center business instrument that will ultimately foster communication and provide better understanding between internal data center organizations.

Join us at DCD Europe Zettastructure on Tuesday, 1 November from 2:45–4:10 p.m., in our workshop "Translating Data Center Metrics/KPIs into an executive management focused instrument," run by Lance Rütimann (Vice President) and Simon Brady (EMEA Liaison Chair).
