Building Data Centers of the Future – EN 50600

Lance Rütimann

As an active member of The Green Grid, I’m regularly exposed to peer and expert perspectives that help me stay abreast of the latest trends impacting the information and communications technology (ICT) industry. So, when The Green Grid’s Board of Directors invited me to conduct a webcast on a cutting-edge topic, I wanted to focus on something that ICT companies need to know about: EN 50600.

A new European Standard for data center facilities and infrastructure, EN 50600 will impact how data centers are designed, built, and managed down the road. In particular, as you explore building new facilities or look to retrofitting existing ones, you’ll need to closely consider its effects, such as:

  • The new standard builds on existing ones, but goes well beyond where we are today, tackling approaches to everything from security to power to environmental controls
  • EN 50600 is holistic and addresses all aspects of data center infrastructure and facilities
  • Each part of the standard interlinks with the other parts to provide a coordinated approach
  • And, it provides you the room to build in improvements as know-how grows and technologies develop

Having contributed to the CENELEC Technical Committee Working Group that is developing and writing the standard, during this upcoming webcast, I will discuss how global suppliers, as well as any companies that own, build, or operate data centers, will be affected by the new standard with a first-hand look at building construction; power distribution, environmental controls, security systems, and management and operation.

I hope you will join me for this webcast, which will be held on 13 October at 16:00 CEST/10 a.m. EDT. Hope to see you there!
