Interactive Tools

Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) Sizing Tool

This tool is designed to size a Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU) for a direct-to-chip liquid cooling system. It calculates the necessary fluid temperature, total flow rate, and total pressure drop across cold plates in a cooling loop. This serves as a preliminary guide to facilitate better understanding and communication between buyers and sellers, helping to reduce the learning curve and bridge the knowledge gap in selecting the appropriate CDU for a server.

ITWC V1 Online Calculation Tool and User Guide

The IT equipment Work Capacity (ITWC) V1 Calculation Tool (online version) provides a user interface that illustrates the functions described in White Paper #94. Note that v1 of the ITWC Metric includes only the Cserv calculation. Future versions of the ITWC metric will include storage and network IT equipment. The ITWC v1 Calculation Tool User Guide provides a step by step description of how to use the the calculation tool. You can access the downloadable version of this tool in TGG's public library.

Downloadable Tools

DCRE Scoring Calculator

A calculation tool in support of the Data Center Resource Effectiveness metric which includes the effectiveness and interrelationship of resources consumed by data centers. It incorporates multiple factors: energy efficiency, water usage, water stress and climate zones. It also introduces Water Usage Impact (WUI), a proxy of water usage and water stress where the data center is located.

Liquid Cooling TCO Calculation Tool

Version 4 of the Total Cost of Operations (TCO) calculator and its related resources can help you assess your liquid options and surface the tradeoffs by solutions categories. All of these suggestions are member provided, peer-reviewed and none of this is vendor provided marketing.

NOTE: TGG no longer offers the LC-TCO tool as an on-line application. It is only available as a download, as is the accompanying handbook. Please read the information below to get access.

Water Usage Impact (WUI) Metric & Scoring Calculator - Coming soon

The Water Usage Impact (WUI) metric is a proxy created based on the environmental impact of Water consumed by a data center, in relationship to the Water Stress Level where the data center is located. The WUI is a sub-section of the DCRE metric, but will be released as a standalone metric targeting Q4 2025.
