Cloud service providers (Google, MS, AWS, etc.) are opening data centers several times larger than before. This trend has also spread to Japan, where hyperscale data centers of several tens of megawatts have been opened, and several more are planned to open within the next few years. In light of The Green Grid's mission of "promoting efficient and responsible resource use throughout the ICT ecosystem," it is necessary to give careful consideration to the impact that the establishment and operation of such data centers will have on the environment. We have gathered together those who are developing cloud data centers around the world and building, operating, or planning large-scale data centers in Japan, and we would like to hear their views on how the era of an increase in hyperscale data centers will unfold.
