2016 Forum – Keynote: Sustainable Data Centers

09 March, 2016 | Presentation

Dr. Steven W. Hammond, National Renewable Energy Lab

This presentation discusses the National Renewable Energy Lab's (NREL) Energy System Integrations Facility and its holistic design approach to sustainable data centers, which led to the world's most energy efficient data center. It describes Peregrine, a warm water liquid cooled supercomputer, waste heat re-use in the data center, demonstrated PUE and ERE, and lessons learned during three years of operation. Finally, it discusses efforts to eliminate water footprint and NREL's approach to a sustainable carbon-free data center of the future.
