In April 2016, the international standardization of REF (Renewable Energy Factor) and PUE (Facility Power Utilization Efficiency), which are energy saving indicators for data centers, was completed and an international standard document was published. Before the project was completed, there was a lot of push and pull, as each country's intentions were mixed. Japan's SC39 National Committee has been working on the international standardization of these two indicators since the establishment of SC39 in 2013, and has also created documents. In the following, we will explain the characteristics and usage of these two indicators, which will be used as international standards around the world, along with the background behind their calculation methods. We will also explain the characteristics of ITEE and ITEU, which are being standardized internationally for next year.
