This session presents an overview of the March 11, 2011 disaster in Japan, including the damage caused by the earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent nuclear power plant shutdown, which had severe implications for the Japanese power grid and data centers. The session explains how data center managers in Japan responded to the power load peak and grid power shortage in the summer of 2011 with fast and innovative ways to improve energy efficiency. In addition, the session features a discussion on the future direction of data center management in Japan from an energy efficiency enhancement point of view.
