Inside the Client Centers pt. 3: An education

In parts one and two of our “Inside the Client Centers” series, we introduced you to the Client Centers and why they are an integral resource for IT leaders working to drive business innovation and control costs. We also shared a recent success story, building and testing an application environment for a major South American bank.

The Client Centers are much broader, however, than just benchmarks. We offer design reviews and educational workshops, where a customer can come in and say, for example, that they want to learn more about IBM Power Systems and about a particular server. We can provide the client with an architect who takes them through the hardware and can help them get ready to run a benchmark. Even more importantly, that client can also just walk in with an idea or come in seeking education, and we can help with that, too.

Sometimes our client has already tested their solution with a competitive platform, and they’re unsatisfied with the results. Our environments are built from scratch and customized, and we offer best-in-class reliability, so that comparison is all the client needs to be convinced that working with IBM is the right decision.

It’s important to emphasize that our customers receive their own equipment for testing at top performance levels. And the data they collect is real data — not expected, not theorized, it’s the real thing. Myself and my team work as a pre-sales function of IBM, so the client can continue to strategize as long as is needed before they go on to make a purchase decision.

People who come to work with the Client Centers tend to receive an education that surprises them. One piece of feedback I get regularly is that the center’s staff provided a personal touch that the consumer did not expect from IBM. But when they come in and work with our center, they leave realizing that IBM is fully committed to individual client success, that we support our products, and that we provide an amazing set of technical resources.
