Technical Forum 2009 – Quantitative Analysis of Power Distribution Configurations

04 February, 2009 | Presentation

Lynn Simmons, Dell
Pam Lembke, IBM

This Technical Forum 2009 presentation discusses an analysis on efficiency of power distribution configurations done by the Power Task Force in the Technology and Strategy Work Group. Based on the previously released "Qualitative Analysis of Power Distribution Configurations for Data Centers" white paper, this paper and presentation turn to look quantitatively at efficiency for simplified power distributions and their components. The model used for the analysis will be discussed, as well as the assumptions that were made. The highest efficiency component data available allows for a solid comparison of seven configurations' end-to-end efficiency curves against a legacy data center with typical components from about 10 years ago.
