Technical Forum 2011 – Why Aren't We Using Server Power Management?

01 March, 2011 | Presentation

John Pflueger, Dell

Over the past several years, server vendors added a number of features to their products aimed at understanding and reducing server power consumption. These range from relatively simple measuring and monitoring features to more complex functions regulating situational power use. Anecdotal evidence from the field, however, suggests that, despite the potential for these features to reduce power consumption, operating expenses, and heat loads, end-users have been slow to adopt and leverage. This session reports on the findings of the Server Power Features Task Force, including the obstacles inhibiting adoption and a potential roadmap for The Green Grid and the industry at-large to remove these inhibitors.
