Three ways to thrive in the digital age [New Solitaire report]

The pace of business has rapidly accelerated in recent years. Your enterprise must constantly innovate products and services while keeping costs down and data secure.

Solitaire Interglobal Limited (SIL), a research firm with over 40 years of experience, has tapped its vast market database to analyze how IT infrastructure can help organizations meet these challenges. These insights are now available in a research paper, Scaling the Digital Mountain (full paper and executive summary available). Here are three key insights from the paper that will help your organization to thrive in the digital age.

A secure infrastructure drives trust

Trust is critical to success in the digital arena. Customers today trust your organization with more of their sensitive data than ever before. And according to the SIL research, nothing erodes that trust faster than failing to protect this information. In a study of more than 175,000 organizations, SIL found that over 78 percent of customers would not automatically return to the business after a data breach. Once these customers leave, they are expensive to win back: the cost of getting a customer back after a breach can be as much as 18.6 times what it cost to get them initially.

The key to maintaining customer trust, the SIL report found, is a secure infrastructure. With cyberattacks growing in volume and complexity, your infrastructure must provide the strongest possible defense against breaches. In its research, SIL found that IBM LinuxONE™ offered a superior infrastructure with…

  • 1/20 of the assessed risk rating of other platforms
  • 61 percent better “out-of-the-box” security threat blocking than other platforms

Strong enterprise security leads to strong customer trust and success in the new digital world.

An agile infrastructure supports rapid innovation

Two hallmarks of the digital age are change and speed. Market needs and customer preferences are constantly shifting. To succeed in this fast-paced environment, your enterprise must be agile. Agile business leaders observe changing market needs and rapidly develop innovations in response.

This agile mindset requires an equally agile IT infrastructure. An agile infrastructure should power rapid innovation development and take shifting resource demands in stride. The SIL research found LinuxONE to be superior in both areas. New applications or systems can be deployed nearly three times faster on LinuxONE than on competing platforms. This nimbleness allows you to stay ahead of competitors by more quickly deploying new applications. Also notable, LinuxONE is 7.41 times more resilient than competing platforms. This means LinuxONE can more effectively cope when resource demands drastically change due to growth and new applications.

An IT infrastructure that moves quickly and easily handles challenging resource demands will help you keep pace in the fast-moving digital world.

Cost-efficient IT gives you a competitive advantage

The digital age has changed the way enterprise leaders look at costs. With less reliance on physical locations, many organizations are looking to gain efficiencies from the IT infrastructure that powers digital business. Yet many organizations struggle to connect this spending to ROI, as SIL research found that less than 1.4 percent of organizations had a formal method for connecting their commerce activities with customer reaction. By making your IT infrastructure as cost efficient as possible – without sacrificing quality or speed – you can gain a competitive advantage.

SIL’s research determined that LinuxONE offers two cost advantages over competing platforms. First, LinuxONE’s total cost of ownership is as much as 82 percent lower than competing platforms. Secondly, it requires between 61 to 88 percent fewer personnel to run. These cost efficiencies will provide the boost needed to stay ahead in the digital race.
