Inside the Client Centers pt 1: Rock and roll

I recently had the opportunity to spend some time at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that iconic museum on the shores of Lake Erie in the great city of Cleveland, Ohio.  Built by I.M. Pei, the architecture of the museum is stunning, geometric forms and a pyramid rising beautifully against the backdrop of lake and sky.  And what’s inside is even better, artifacts from an entire era that traces the rise of rock and roll music.

By far my favorite part of the museum has to be the costumes — the sequined jacket Elvis wore, the Supremes and their matching frocks, Lady Gaga’s metal dress.  More awesome tie-dye than you can imagine.  These costumes are displayed right next to original lyrics, hand written on whatever was at hand.  Creativity abounds here, and the art of what is possible for both visual and auditory senses is everywhere.

This visit reminded me of what I see every day in the work that I do.  I am a Distinguished Engineer in our IBM Systems Client Centers.  We provide briefings, demos, workshops, consulting, proof of concepts and technologies, benchmarks and hosting to our clients around the world.

Here’s a list of our locations:

  1. Austin
  2. Beijing
  3. Boeblingen
  4. Guadalajara
  5. Montpellier
  6. Poughkeepsie
  7. Rochester
  8. Tokyo
  9. Tucson

I see so much creativity in what we do.  It could be in an innovative briefing and demo on the latest flash technologies that can help you be competitive in your business.  Or a customized workshop on how blockchain can help you reduce time, cost and risk.  Or the invention of exceptional tuning in a cognitive machine learning benchmark to get you the best performance ever.

The leaders of a large healthcare organization recently came to our IBM Systems Client Centers, and they wanted to take advantage of our technology to reduce their pricing discrepancies.  We provided a workshop where we mapped out use cases, a high-level architecture backed by our key reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) and the security of the IBM z Systems mainframe, best practices and an ROI with a cost savings of millions per year.  Earlier this year, a university came to us to run a cognitive machine learning benchmark on our high-performance computing IBM Power Systems cloud.  We showcased leadership performance for their artificial intelligence applications.  And that’s just two examples — both typical of the awesome work we do.

Like artists who are singers, songwriters, and designers, our professionals are the experts at the top of their fields.  Which, in a nutshell, is showing you the art of the possible for your IT infrastructure.
