Enterprises around the world make storage purchase decisions based almost exclusively on information and advice from three sources: trusted colleagues, basic product documentation such as data sheets and industry analysts.

With three finalists in the All-flash Storage System category of SearchStorage.com and Storage magazine’s 15th annual Products of the Year competition, IBM has been recognized by those industry analysts. This recognition demonstrates that IBM continues to develop and market some of the best storage solutions on the market. And it confirms a long-term commitment to industry leadership in the enterprise storage marketplace.Storage POY1

Out of a total of seven finalist spots in the all-flash storage category, IBM captured three with FlashSystem A9000, FlashSystem A9000R and Storwize V7000F. No other flash vendor placed with more than one of its entries.

The three IBM all-flash Products of the Year finalists highlight the aggressive product evolution and leading-edge engineering underway at IBM. IBM listens to customers and tracks IT market and technology trends carefully. Perhaps more accurately, IBM is a major driver of technology directions. These all-flash storage systems address new requirements in the marketplace for easy and agile hybrid cloud solutions, storage virtualization and consistent microsecond storage latency. These are not old technologies quickly updated to catch up with 21st century business demands. Instead, they are new solutions designed specifically to enable enterprises of all sizes to move toward the IT architectures that will support the cognitive workloads powering business today — and tomorrow.

IBM FlashSystem A9000 and FlashSystem A9000R are purpose-engineered to address hybrid cloud, virtual desktop, mobile and social systems of engagement, the Internet of Things and big data analytics workload scale. FlashSystem A9000 integrates the performance of IBM FlashCore technology, parallel architecture and comprehensive data reduction in one powerful solution. FlashSystem A9000R is a grid-scale, rack based solution that provides an excellent platform for growing cloud storage in large, mixed workload environments.

Storwize V7000 is the platform within the Storwize family that offers the greatest functionality, performance and reliability. Storwize V7000F combines the benefits of all-flash architecture with the advantages of software-defined storage technologies to help enterprises solve a wide range of storage challenges with very attractive data economics.

These all-flash systems aren’t islands isolated from the main IBM storage product lines. Instead, they are just three elements in a broad spectrum of integrated all-flash storage solutions that includes:

  • IBM FlashSystem: The number one all-flash array in capacity shipments in the marketplace.
  • IBM Storwize family: All-flash systems for entry-level and mid-range workloads.
  • IBM DS8880 family: All-flash configurations designed to support mainframe and other business-critical environments where peak availability is non-negotiable.
  • DeepFlash: Solutions tailored for large, unstructured data sets where performance must go hand in hand with the lowest possible cost.
  • VersaStack: Converged infrastructure solutions that offer multiple high performance all-flash configuration options.

Because of the deep integration between all members of the IBM Storage portfolio and IBM Spectrum Storage, these finalists in the All-flash Storage Systems Products of the Year competition may be viewed simply as the 2016 flag bearers for the comprehensive IBM storage vision. No matter your current or future application workloads, performance and functionality requirements, budget constraints or existing IT infrastructure, there are market-leading IBM storage solutions available right now to meet your needs.

Stay tuned for the February issue of Storage magazine and check online to learn which of the all-flash finalists stepped up another level to earn bronze, silver or gold. Even if they don’t win, they are some of only a handful in the running. In last year’s Products of the Year competition, IBM also had three finalists in the All-flash Storage System category. In fact, IBM storage products garnered more than 20 different awards and accolades in 2016. Being a finalist in this competition just extends a trend for IBM Storage that has continued for years.
