Day one support for IBM z Systems leads the competition

IBM takes pride in offering day one development tooling support for emerging technologies available within IBM z Systems. Applications delivered on complex or emerging environments require development tools that can scale to the complexities of the work you do.

With day one support, you don’t have to worry about these complexities and issues. Take IBM Debug Tool for z/OS for example, which has always led the industry in innovation:

  • IBM was the first to provide an eclipse interface to z/OS testing and debugging, breaking the technological barriers and limitations of 3270 data streams. It also provides the benefits of advanced (windowed) screen real estate, graphical user interface (GUI) development, simplified workflow and cost reduction by supporting deployment of the user interface (UI) in Windows, Linux and Mac OS clients.
  • Just last year, IBM introduced several industry-first and industry-only improvements, updates and new features to keep our clients at the leading edge of debugging capabilities. Here are a couple of highlights:
    • In September, general availability was released for IBM Debug for z Systems V14, the follow-on for IBM Debug Tool. This provided a new technology that moves processing from z/OS to the client, reducing millions of instructions per second (MIPS) by reducing the processing done in z/OS.
    • In December, IBM z Explorer AQUA was introduced, a platform that delivers unprecedented integration across 17 products and solutions.
  • Other IBM Debug tool features, functions and environment support capabilities include:

You should have what you need, when you need it, so that on day one you have the tooling technology for high-end, modern and new-to-the-market application architectures. This allows you to benefit from the business advantage of things like Java/COBOL interoperability, REST, JSON, JZOS and others, without having to thrash around with manual development or wait for some vendor to claim leadership on these technologies by delivering these capabilities a day late and a dollar short.

IBM Debug for z Systems V14 is an integral part of the IBM z/OS Explorer Aqua environment and can be adopted as either a stand-alone debugging facility or as an integrated environment with IBM Development Environment for z Systems (IDz). The z/OS Explorer Aqua ecosystem is the industry’s broadest integration platform with 17 products released monthly, using an automated delivery platform to integrate and test these products so they work together.

This ensures that these tools provide a cohesive, integrated development system, sharing a common Eclipse framework, common authentication protocol, cross-linked information-sharing and organically implemented design for consistency and ease of use. The alternative is a loosely defined group of features slapped together by cutting and pasting components of third-party tools from mergers and acquisitions to form what can marginally be called a workbench.

Please visit DevOps for Enterprise Systems where you will see real innovation in action. Go ahead and give it a spin. You will find that IBM Debug Tool for zSystems can deliver where others come up short in up-to-date technologies.

At the end of the day, the goal is to have satisfied clients moving forward with the technology you need to get your business where it is going, and make sure you arrive right on time.
