‘Twas the night before Go Live, when all through the site,
Technologies were in place to make it run right;

A new cloud-based app had been rolled out with care,
In hopes that customers soon would be there.

The whole DevOps crew was snug in their beds,
While visions of gigabytes danced in their heads.

I too was asleep, but dreamed I was at work,
In the main data center; I turned with a jerk—

For there on the monitor arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.

The traffic was much more than we had planned,
That promotion campaign must have tripled demand.

Would our systems handle such an influx of cash?
Could we scale fast enough to avoid a big crash?

Or would we go down and face everyone’s wrath,
And I’d have to make changes to my career path?

Then, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But our IBM rep, who said, “Do not fear!”

“Your cloud app is running on IBM POWER9,
In a Power Systems server that makes your site shine.

“It can give your new app a competitive lead,
With its scalable nature and plenty of speed;

Plus, it offers the right stuff for your hybrid cloud;
The infrastructure surely will make you feel proud.”

You integrated all your core data securely,
And with so much ease that you went home early.

Your new app taps into your back-end mainframe,
An IBM z14 of well-deserved fame;

For customer data with digital trust,
That leaves other transactional gear in the dust.

Its near-100 percent uptime is really no fiction,
And it keeps data safe with pervasive encryption.

More rapid than eagles the servers they ran,
And he whistled, and shouted, and said, “Yes, they can!”

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
Soon led me to know I had nothing to dread.

He sprung to his car, to our team gave a whistle,
And away he then flew, like the down of a thistle:

But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight—
“Great computing to all, and to all a good night!”
