Continue the Conversation on Resource Efficient IT

Resource efficient IT continues to expand ROI and contribute to environmental sustainability commitments at a time when every industry around the world needs it most. During The Green Grid Forum 2013, attendees had the exclusive opportunity to:

The Green Grid Forum 2013 was held on March 5-6, 2013 in Santa Clara, CA and featured 30+ sessions focused around the following 4 pillars: Challenges and Opportunities of Big Data, Value of Collaborative Regulatory Activity, Software and IT Hardware Efficiencies, and Financial and Operational Efficiencies. The Green Grid also hosted the Data Center Maturity Model Tutorial in conjunction with Forum on March 4. Additional information is included below.

The Forum featured a number of ways to engage with attendees, customers, and industry representatives.

Members Networking Reception
Attendees had the opportunity to participate in an evening reception on March 5 to meet and network with fellow members.

Technical Roundtable Lunch Discussions
Attendees participated in roundtable discussions with Technical Committee leaders on March 5. Each table discussed TGG projects like Balancing Risk against Resource Efficiency, the Airflow Management Energy Calculator, Data Center Life Cycle Analysis, Cloud Work Group activities, IT Recycling Metric, and Data Center Productivity Proxies.

Alliance Roundtable Lunch Discussions
The Green Grid collaborates with government, industry, and academic bodies globally. During lunch on March 6, The Green Grid's alliances hosted roundtables. Hosts included 7x24 Exchange, BCS, GeSI, Green500/Top500, Information Technology Industry Council, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, SNIA.

Data Center Maturity Model Tutorial

On March 4th, The Green Grid hosted a Data Center Maturity Model Tutorial to teach attendees how to evaluate their data center and IT portfolio against the Data Center Maturity Model (DCMM). For more details on this event please visit the DCMM Tutorial page.

ITS39 IT Sustainability Meeting
The Green Grid Forum attendees were invited to attend the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards’ (INCITS) meeting of ITS39 IT Sustainability, which was held on March 7 at the Hilton Hotel in Santa Clara, CA (across the street from the Santa Clara Convention Center). ITS39 is the designated U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the JTC 1 Sub-Committee 39 on Sustainability for and by IT. SC-39’s program of work includes standardization of Key Performance Indicators for sustainability and energy efficiency of data centers, a data-center maturity model, best practices for sustainable data centers and guidance on sustainable technologies.

The committee operated under the ANSI-accredited procedures of INCITS. Membership on INCITS/ITS39 is open to all directly and materially affected parties but only U.S.-based companies can vote to establish a U.S. position on TAG matters. For more information, please contact John Calhoon at

ENERGY STAR Computer Servers Version 2.0 Kick-off Event
EPA hosted an in-person Version 2.0 Computer Server kick-off event on March 4, 2013 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM PST and discussed various details of the finalized specification and test method. The meeting took place at the Intel Corporation SC9-Auditorium, 3601 Juliette Lane, Santa Clara, CA.
