Thermal Management Sub Work Group

Officers:

Charter:

  • Mission Statement
    • The Thermal Sub Work Group will work to improve data center efficiency and promote best practices by developing and refining content focused on cooling equipment and its impact on facility level cooling.
  • Structure
    • The Thermal Sub Work Group reports to the Technology and Strategy Work Group and is also connected to the Data Center Design Guide Work Group.
  • Scope
    • The Thermal Sub Work Group will identify and solve issues relating to cooling equipment, specifically relating to efficiency and best practices.
    • For the design guide, this will include developing content to promote standards, recommend efficiency requirements, measurement techniques and communication requirements for equipment.
    • For the Technology and Strategy Work Group, this will include developing content on topics that are new or highly debated in the industry, either as white papers or peer reviews of other published works.
  • Criteria for Success
    • Success will be determined by:
      • Member participation
      • Completed deliverables
  • Deliverables
    • The Thermal Sub Work Group deliverables will be in the form of chapters for the data center design guide, and for Technology and Strategy Work Group, deliverables will typically be in the form of white papers or online tools to help The Green Grid members with facility power planning and research.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • The Thermal Sub Work Group will require collaboration within Technology and Strategy Work Group and Data Center Design Guide for comments and discussion of deliverables, as well as the external liaisons to The Green Grid partners for further review of deliverables or discussion of power topics within the industry. The can include collaborations with international or regional work groups.
  • About the Group:
    • Meeting Schedule
      • Meetings are held weekly to discuss content and deliverables.
    • Communication Mechanisms
      • Communication is completed by use of The Green Grid tools including Kavi, email via Thermal_swg@lists.thegreengrid.org, monthly phone meetings and Technical Committee face to face meetings.
    • Level of involvement
      • Thermal Sub Work Group members are expected to participate via the weekly meetings and by giving feedback on deliverables being reviewed.
