Operations Work Group

Officers

  • The Work Group has two elected positions. These are currently held by: 
    • Chair: Gary Jensen, Nationwide
    • Vice-Chair: tbd

Charter

  • Mission Statement
    • The Operations Work Group will improve data center efficiency by developing and refining content focused on the relationship between Facilities, IT and business stakeholder decisions and data center resource efficiency.
  • Structure
    • The Operations Work Group reports to the Technical Committee. This Work Group may include Task Forces that report by dotted line to the Data Center Design Guide Work Group.
  • Scope
    • The Operations Work Group will identify and solve issues important within the Facilities, IT and business domains, this includes areas such as capacity planning, equipment and application deployment, and day-to-day operational decisions affecting infrastructure efficiency and IT productivity. The Work Group will also develop content appropriate for educating appropriate organizations as to the effect of, and their ability to manage energy throughout the data center.
    • The Operations Work Group will focus on how equipment is utilized in the data center.
  • Criteria for Success
    • Success will be determined by:
      • Member participation
      • General industry awareness of the relationship between Facility, IT and business decisions and data center resource efficiency
      • Downloads of completed deliverables
      • Education modules created; number of modules completed by public and member participants
      • Industry adoption of best known methods developed and promoted by by the Work Group
  • Deliverables
    • The Work Group shall develop white papers and may deliver online tools, presentations and other technical communication based on technical studies and other technical knowledge.
    • Drives activities and sets priorities for the Data Center Design Guide
  • Internal Collaboration
    • The Work Group will rely on ongoing liaisons with the other groups within The Green Grid to ensure the output reflects the needs of the general membership.
    • The Work Group may leverage the general membership for additional non-voting participants as required to develop and produce approved deliverables.
  • About the Group
    • Typical Meeting Schedules
      • The Operations Work Group holds bi-weekly conference calls to check progress within both WG Task forces and any higher-level Work Group activity. This call will also ensure members have the latest updates on other work in progress within TGG’s Technical Committee.
    • Communication Mechanisms
      • The group receives regular updates on the planned and ongoing work of the Green Grid. Additionally, The group will develop presentations for use in The Green Grid member forums and be a key technical content provider and reviewer with respect to Facilities, IT and Business Operations focused material.
    • Level of involvement
      • Group members are expected to attend a reasonable number of conference calls and at least two face-to-face meetings per year. Additionally, group members are expected to participate actively in the creation of the Work Group’s work products as well as speaker support for events.
