The Green Grid Overview
This session offered an overview of The Green Grid, reviewed the accomplishments of the last year, and addressed the expanded mission and new initiatives. Vice-President Roger Tipley covered past activities, looked to the future, and answered questions from attendees. In addition, he introduced the new Executive Director, Mark Schiller, who discussed membership and participation opportunities
Engineering Strategist, Hewlett-Packard
Board Member and Vice-President, The Green Grid
Roger Tipley works as an engineering strategist in Hewlett-Packard's Enterprise Servers and Networking business unit. As a systems architect, he leads projects to manage power consumption and improve the energy efficiency of enterprise-class information technology products.
For the past 27 years he has been honing his skills in the design of high-speed circuitry and computer systems. In 2004, Roger turned his sights onto optimized solutions for server and data center power and cooling. Roger contributes to industry associations as a Senior Member of the IEEE and a Senior Member of the Association for Computing Machinery. He spent 10 years as (first) a board member, then President and Chairman of the Board for the PCI-SIG. He currently serves as Vice-President for The Green Grid Association, a group dedicated to improving the resource efficiency of data centers and business computing ecosystems. For the past 17 years he has invested much of his spare time as a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America and still avidly teaches advanced leadership skills to both adults and youth. Roger currently holds 11 US Patents.
