Metrics & Measurement Work Group

Officers

  • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group has two elected positions. These are currently held by:
    • Chair: Sutheesh MC, Dimension Data
    • Vice-Chair: TBD

Charter

  • Mission Statement
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group will improve data center efficiency by developing metrics which represent data center and data center equipment resource efficiency and developing the measurement protocols and techniques by which these metrics are calculated.
  • Structure
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group reports to the Technical Committee.
  • Scope
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group will develop both data center equipment and data center wide metrics that describe energy usage inside data centers and the relationship between energy input and data center work output.
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group will develop methods and techniques for calculating data center equipment and data center wide metrics relating to energy consumption
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group may focus on either individual units of data center equipment, broader systems within the data center, or the relationship between the data center and its surrounding campus
  • Criteria for Success
    • Member participation
    • General industry awareness and adoption of data center resource efficiency and productivity metrics
    • Downloads of completed deliverables
    • Completion of work required of the Metrics & Measurement Work Group by other Technical Committee Work Groups
  • Deliverables
    • The Work Group shall develop white papers and may deliver online tools, presentations and other technical communication based on technical studies and other technical knowledge.
  • Internal Collaboration
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group will rely on ongoing liaisons with the other groups within The Green Grid and external to The Green Grid to ensure the deliverables reflect the needs of end-users, the general membership and the industry.
    • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group may develop metrics and measurement techniques as required by other Technical Committee Work Groups for their deliverables
    • The Work Group may leverage the general membership for additional non-voting participants as required to develop and produce approved deliverables.
  • About the Group
    • Typical Meeting Schedules
      • The Metrics & Measurement Work Group holds monthly conference calls to check progress within both Work Group Task forces and any higher-level Work Group activity. This call ensures members have the latest updates on other work in progress within TGG’s Technical Committee. The Metrics & Measurement individual Task Forces hold bi-weekly conference calls to check progress and allow for working sessions
    • Communication Mechanisms
      • The Group receives regular updates on the planned and ongoing work of the Green Grid. The Group develops Metrics and Measurement technical content (white papers, presentations, tools, etc.) for use in The Green Grid member forums and TGG’s Communications Committee for both internal and external communications.
    • Level of involvement
      • Group members are expected to attend the majority of conference calls and the majority of TGG’s face-to-face sessions and online forums per year. Additionally, group members are expected to participate actively in the creation of the Metrics & Measurement Work Group’s work products as well as speaker support for events.
